The Next Assassin’s Creed will be the ‘Biggest to Date’

Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, has revealed that the next entry into the Assassin’s Creed series will be the “biggest to date.”

“Assassin’s Creed is an incredible franchise and there are a lot of expectations that it will continue to grow,” he said. ”We are pleased with our continued success so far: in the U.S., Assassin’s Creed: Revelations was a Top Ten title for the entire calendar year, which shows that the demand is definitely there.”

“We think that delivering regular instalments and expanding the brand to other platforms will continue to satisfy the demand, while at the same time attracting new fans,” Guillemot added. ”And we’re confident that the next instalment of Assassin’s Creed will be the biggest to date.”
Now that Ezio’s story has been completed will this year’s entry finally be the highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed 3? Based on previous road maps revealed by Ubisoft we’re guessing the answer is yes, as Ezio was to get three games before a new assassin took over. The question is who will be the new main character, and will Ubisoft give Desmond even more screen time in the present day now that his skills are sharpening? Whoever takes over the promise of the biggest game to date is enough to leave any Assassin’s Creed fan a drooling mess. With the extras added to single and multiplayer in Revelations, how can things possibly get bigger? A lot of questions have been asked here and not a lot answered, but isn’t that how the franchise works? If there’s no more questions then there’s no more Assassin’s Creed.

Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City coming to Playstation 3

The latest ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) update has revealed that Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City will be making their way to the PlayStation 3. It’s been over 10 years since Grand Theft Auto 3 launched for PlayStation 2, and just under 10 for Vice City. In this new ESRB reveal, both titles are listed as being published by Sony Computer Entertainment—meaning it’s most likely that these will be those original versions of the games, which will be put up as part of the growing list of PlayStation 2 re-releases on the PlayStation Store. The release of Grand Theft Auto 3—along with Vice City—were a big part of what sparked GTA‘s move to mainstream entertainment. They were also the series’ first moves into crafting the vast 3D worlds the series is known for, and both titles still sit on pretty impressive metacritic scores. If you are yet to play either title—or just want to have one more go at them—then you should certainly keep an eye out for the full announcement of their digital re-release. Sadly, no solid release date or price have been mentioned.

STAR WARS: OLD REPUBLIC COST ELECTRONIC ARTS $200 MILLION

Massively Multiplayer Online games cost a lot of money to make, and no one knows that more than EA right now. The LA Times reports that EA spent an estimated $200 million on the production of Star Wars: The Old Republic. With a team of about 800 employees spread across four continents, the game took six years to finally release. The LA Times threw out other numbers as well: Nearly 1000 actors recording dialog for 4,000 characters in three separate languages; add that to the 1,600 hours of story, with hundreds more still in production and it is easy to see why EA is calling this, ”largest entertainment production in history.” With such lofty numbers, it will be a long time before EA can recoup its investment.

Do you know what we could do with $200 million dollars?! Who are we kidding, we’d probably created an MMORPG based off the world’s most propular license and do so by hiring one of the most renown developers in the world. Creating an MMORPG is unlike creating a game in any other genre. There is a constant stream of support that needs to be in place, and with such a massive undertaking, EA looks like they are preparing for the long haul.

Resident Evil 6 announced, coming to PC after console release

Leon Kennedy has fought zombies, parasitic scythe-monsters, and even a few things that couldn't be instantly slain with a spinning back kick to the face. However, in Resident Evil 6, he may finally meet his match: American politics . Read inside for launch date details.

By “American politics,” of course, I mean that he'll be duking it out with a president who's been biochemically “transformed beyond recognition and [making] his hardest ever decision.” Series mainstay Chris Redfield, meanwhile, will be sharing top billing by putting his large biceps to use in China. So basically, the outbreak is going global, and globe-trotting is hungry business.

On the upside, the PC version is as existent as most PC ports of major console games are not. However, while RE6 is creeping onto consoles on November 20, the PC launch date is currently a simple “later.” But for you impatient types, you can cut three whole minutes off your year-or-so wait time with the above trailer.

BATTLEFIELD 2 DELUXE EDITION - PC

The sequel to the blockbuster online multiplayer war Battlefield franchise, EA and developer Digital Illusions are taking the battle to another realm with a modern-war era edition. Players from the United States, China and the Middle East Coalition (all armed with realistic armarments and vehicles) will all be represented in harrowing battles for a massive number of online players (more than any of the previous Battlefield titles).

BATTLEFIELD 1942 SECRET WEAPONS OF WWII - PC

The game was followed by the Road to Rome expansion pack earlier this year, which added larger maps and more-balanced vehicles. Now Battlefield 1942 has been supplemented, yet again, by another expansion pack, Secret Weapons of WWII. The latest expansion adds a lot of interesting new features and an additional eight maps. What it offers should be enough to keep Battlefield 1942 fans playing, though it could have offered more.
As its title suggests, the expansion pack focuses on experimental secret weapons that saw little or no use in the actual war. Some of these additions–especially the new personal rocket pack that lets you take high-flying leaps–might seem pretty far-fetched, but they work out well in the game and seem surprisingly balanced. The personal rocket pack can’t be used to fly indefinitely, and it saddles you with an unimpressive MP40 assault rifle. In addition, its volatile fuel reserves explode instantly if you take a solid hit, thus killing you. Likewise, the game’s new heavy-duty tanks, such as the German Sturmtiger and the US T-95 Supertank are exceedingly powerful, but they are limited by such factors as a lack of ammo, speed, and turret-turning radius. The same can be said for the expansion’s new aircraft, such as the incredibly speedy F-85 Goblin and the Natter rocket jet. Both have so much forward speed that they can be difficult to shoot down, but both are also relatively fragile and not heavily armed. Just controlling these jets is a challenging task and should prove to be entertaining for ace Battlefield 1942 pilots.
While the expansion does introduce plenty of new aircraft, it also introduces plenty of new countermeasures, such as the antiair Flakpanzer tank and the Wasserfall guided missile–the latter of which is controlled from a first-person perspective (similarly to the redeemer weapon from Unreal Tournament 2003). Several of these vehicles actually give you brand-new options on the battlefield. For instance, the C-47 cargo plane acts as a mobile spawn point that lets you parachute behind enemy lines, while the LVT-2 Water Buffalo and Schwimmwagen are amphibious vehicles that can be used to cross bodies of water you might otherwise have not bothered swimming across–since swimming remains exceedingly slow. The expansion also adds a few modified weapons for infantry soldiers on its eight maps, such as the new shotgun weapon for Allied engineers and the grenade launcher for Axis engineers. Though some may take getting used to (especially the shotgun), these weapons represent a good change of pace for on-foot battle, and none is horribly overpowered or underpowered. So, if you were concerned that the game’s outlandish weapons and vehicles might somehow destroy its balance, you needn’t worry.
Secret Weapons of WWII also introduces eight new maps that, interestingly enough, seem to be designed around the vehicles they feature. The Essen weapon factory level, for instance, puts the Allies and Axis on opposite ends of the map and equips the Allies with plenty of powerful aircraft, including the C-47 transport plane (which can carry a whole host of Allied infantry across enemy lines). The Axis control a weapon factory on the opposite side of the map, complete with antiaircraft Flakpanzer tanks and a Wasserfall missile silo. The maps seem extremely well designed, for the most part. Maps that do feature lots of aircraft also feature numerous stationary antiair turrets so that airstrikes aren’t as overwhelming as they could sometimes be in the original game’s maps. The expansion also introduces a new objective-based gameplay mode that generally tasks one team with completing a specific goal–such as destroying fuel silos or key documents–while the opposing team must prevent it. The objective mode can, in the best cases, make matches considerably shorter (at least shorter than the constant back-and-forth of the game’s basic conquest mode, anyway). In the best possible cases, objective mode is a focused and enjoyable gameplay mode–if you have skilled and coordinated teammates. However, it can often become frustrating and tedious if you end up with a team full of goof-offs who don’t bother trying to complete the goal.

BATTLEFIELD VIETNAM - PC

While a jaded gamer might label Battlefield Vietnam nothing more than an elaborate update, that’s taking a very cynical and shortsighted view. The truth is that Battlefield Vietnam is more than just a new collection of maps and weapons; it’s a superbly designed multiplayer action game that incorporates the lessons learned from 1942 and mates them with better technology. And yet, it must be said that Battlefield Vietnam just doesn’t feel as groundbreaking as Battlefield 1942 did for its time, when it successfully combined first-person shooting action with vehicular combat on a relatively large scale. Be that as it may, hardcore Battlefield fans and new players alike will probably agree that Battlefield Vietnam is a great, often thrilling action game.

BATTLEFIELD 1942 THE ROAD TO ROME - PC

Digital Illusions’ 2002 award-winning game Battlefield 1942 is a remarkable game for many reasons. It’s a first-person shooter set in World War II, featuring lots of weapons and usable vehicles modeled after their real-world counterparts, and it’s also great fun to play. Battlefield 1942′s unique combination of fast-paced run-and-gun gameplay and easy-to-pilot vehicles (including tanks, planes, and battleships, among others) is so enjoyable in multiplayer games that early adopters of Battlefield 1942 were willing to look past the game’s technical shortcomings, such as online lag and hardware compatibility issues, at the time of release. The game’s popularity has only grown since then, and the Road to Rome expansion pack adds a total of six new maps and a number of new vehicles to the already excellent game. And while The Road to Rome isn’t the most ambitious expansion pack ever made, it makes a great game even better.
The Road to Rome adds a total of six different maps to Battlefield 1942, each of which is densely populated with varying terrain features and some combination of the game’s nine new vehicles. However, the expansion doesn’t add any new play modes to the original game–the main modes are still deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, and conquest, although conquest, in which players on opposing teams attempt to capture and hold control points on the map, remains the most popular mode in multiplayer play. Battlefield 1942 is all about multiplayer and so is The Road to Rome–though you certainly can play the game offline with computer-controlled players, it just isn’t the same as tearing across a battlefield online with up to 63 other players at once.
The Road to Rome’s new features improve on some of the inherent imbalances in the original game. For instance, the new maps are quite large, but they’re a bit more balanced with respect to on-foot and vehicle battles. One of the most exciting and enjoyable aspects of the original Battlefield 1942 is jumping into a vehicle and driving or flying into battle, but in many cases, such as on the popular Wake Island map (in which both opposing teams have access to fighter planes and other vehicles), if your teammates and enemies grab all the nearest vehicles, you’re basically out of luck, forced to hoof it to the next base or to try bumming a ride from a teammate. The Road to Rome’s large maps are clearly laid out to encourage both vehicular and infantry skirmishes, since they feature many open areas for vehicles to travel across, as well as many smaller, somewhat enclosed areas for battles on foot, and they also have plenty of stationary machine-gun nests and antiair guns so that if you get caught on foot, you won’t always be at a great disadvantage against an enemy in an armored vehicle.
